Winchendon Winds opened our 2018 season at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Winchendon on July 1 with a concert titled “America!” in observance of Independence Day. We welcomed a new conductor, Dr. James Chesebrough, who conducted a program of patriotic favorites to over 100 attendees. We honored the Wilcox family, who had completed a full restoration of Winchendon’s town mascot, “Clyde the Horse,” with a rendition of the “Toy Town March,” commissioned for Winchendon Winds. Attendees enjoyed strawberry shortcake on the front lawn before and during the concert.

On July 8 we performed “Greatest Hits of 1918” playing music from the golden age of the American bandstand. The crowd inside the church sanctuary once again crested 100. Ice cream sundaes from our business sponsor Lickety Splitz were a welcome treat during the concert,

July 15, 2018 concert

Winchendon Winds collaborated with the local American Legion for a special tribute concert titled “Honoring Our Veterans.” We opened the concert with a full color guard and national anthem, then performing a variety of patriotic selections, and personally recognizing local veterans by name and branch of service through a roll call. Following the tribute concert, the Ladies' Auxiliary of the American Legion hosted a reception on the church lawn featuring finger sandwiches and desserts.

Winchendon Winds was pleased and honored to be invited by the Winchendon Town Manager to perform at the town’s Fall Festival on October 6. Players braved cool temperatures to perform on the church front lawn while the entire street was closed to pedestrian traffic. The festival enjoyed several thousand attendees.
